2013 Toyota Tacoma Brake Controller Adapter Availability and Plug Location
Question:
I have a 2013 toyota takoma. It has the factory tow package, but I cant find the brake controller harness under the dash or behind the drivers side kick plate. Any ideas where it might be hiding in this vehicle? Also, is there an adaptor I can use to plug directly into Part #90885? Thanks.

For your 2013 Toyota Tacoma the brake controller plug is on the driver's side, close to the emergency brake pedal taped to a bundle of wires. If you find the bundle of wires there should be a thicker or larger blue wire, if you can grab the thick blue wire you can trace it down until you find the connector. It should be taped to the vertical section of wire with electrical tape and could be behind the kick panel.
There is an adapter to make installing the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 much easier. You can use Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3040-P. One end will plug into your Tacoma's port, ground the white wire that has the ring terminal, and then the other end will plug directly into the brake controller.
I linked the adapter and a video for you to check out. The video is on a different year Tacoma and for a different brake controller, however it shows the location of the factory plug very well, and the process will be almost identical for most brake controllers.
