Best Weight Distribution System for Grand Design Momentum 25G Trailer With 11,500 lb GVWR

Question:

Trying to figure our what wdh to purchase. I havent purchase the toy hauler yet. Were looking at the grand design 25G. The toy hauler factory specs are UVW 7900 lbs, Hitch Weight 1150 lbs, GVWR 11500 lbs, length 30'11" My truck is rated 2,500 lbs payload, 13,400 towing capacity. I have the factory class IV hitch. Also a 6 inch lift on the truck with 33 inch E tires. Will the 1,200TW/12,000 wdh work? Or Ill be better with the 1,400TW/14,000 wdh?

For the Grand Design Momentum 25G the best Equal-i-zer weight distribution system is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System - 14,000 lbs GTW, 1,400 lbs TW # EQ37140ET. The reason for that is you want to choose your system based on total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck.

The 1,150 lb hitch weight you mentioned is, according to Grand Design, based on average weight. So we can use that weight and figure your TTW is in the 1,200 to 1,300 lb range (depending on your gear). The ideal weight distribution system would be one in which your TTW falls somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity, which is 1,000 lbs - 1,400 lbs for the Equal-i-zer # EQ37140ET.

The only issue you should be aware of is because you have a 6 inch lift on your truck, the 3 inch drop that comes with this system is almost certainly not going to be right for you. So you will need the Equal-i-zer # EQ37141ET, which is the same system but without a shank. You will then need to get your shank separately, the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank - 12" Long - 13" Rise, 9" Drop # EQ90-02-4400 which is the most drop available for a shank.

If you are unsure of how to measure for the correct rise or drop I've added a link to a help article which details how to determine your rise or drop. I also recommend Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 to help ease the installation of the hitch ball, as well as Equal-i-zer High-Performance Lubricant # EQ91-00-4250 for lubricating the system.
