The Roadmaster the Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs, # RM-155, is a universal wiring kit and will work on your 2012 Chevrolet Sonic. We have not had a chance to install this kit in a Sonic yet, but I can give you some measurements to help you determine if you would like to install this kit.
The bulbs used in this kit are the standard # 1157 bulb which measures 1.83 inches tall and .97 inches wide. The socket that goes into the lens measures .95 inches. The instructions show to drill a 1 inch diameter hole in the tail light housing beneath the red lens, preferably with a hole saw.
When you install the bulbs there must be a 1/4 of an inch between the bulb and the lens. If you add the bulb height of 1.83 inches to the socket height of .95 inches plus the required 1/4 needed between the bulb and the lens then you will want to drill a hole that is about 3 inches away from the lens.
If you do not want to drill into your tail light, they you may be interested in the Custer Magnetic Towing Light Kit, # RM-2120. This kit does not require any drilling and simply mounts to your towed vehicle with magnets.
Please note that if your vehicle is a 1.4 liter automatic, then it is not flat tow-able and you will need to use a tow dolly. All 1.4 liter manuals and all 1.8 liter Sonics are tow-able as is.
I have attache two FAQ articles on flat towing your vehicle and on wiring harnesses for you to check out.
