Fit of Malone Cargo Carrier on 2019 Toyota Highlander

Question:

What are the inside dimensions of the Malone Cargo 12? Im pretty sure this will fit my 2019 Toyota Highlander. I do not need a lot of space but need something to accommodate 26inch wide. I also do not want to spend a fortune. Thank you!

According to Malone, the inside dimensions are 53 inches long x 29 inches wide x 16-1/2 inches tall. The box's attachment hardware is compatible with roof rack crossbars up to 3 inches wide by 1-3/8 inches tall. The box needs a bar spread (measurement from middle of the width of front bar to middle of the width of the rear bar) between 24-28 inches. In order for your rear hatch to open without hitting the rear of the cargo box, the distance between the middle of the width of the rear bar to the seam between the hatch and the liftgate needs to be 16 inches or more.

The only thing that might provide a problem is the bar spread, I believe. Many roof rack crossbars for your vehicle use the fixed mounting points in the flush mounted rails that run along the sides of the roof, front to back. From what my research indicates, these points are 32 inches apart, so if your crossbars attach in this manner the roof box won't work. If your roof rack attaches using clamps into the tops of the door jambs, you'll need to measure to check for compatibility.

If the Malone box won't work for you, we have other affordable alternatives. The Trunx Rooftop Cargo Carrier, part # TRX44FR has interior dimensions of 46-5/8L x 27-3/8W x 17-5/16 inches tall. It fits a bar spread of 22 inches, but additional holes can be drilled to accommodate a bar spread up to 30 inches. Once again, the fit will depend on the distance apart your crossbars are spaced.

If you have the 32 inch bar spread, the SportRack Horizon, part # SR7017 will accommodate bar spreads up to 36 inches and has an interior width large enough to fit something that's 23 inches wide.
