Can 5 Trailer Batteries be Wired Together to Still Put Out 12 Volts

Could 5 12 volt batteries be connected in series and still end up with 12 volts?

In series wiring increases the voltage of the battery output so 5 batteries wired in series would not be 12 volts but there is a different option that will work. Instead parallel battery wiring keeps the voltage the same. So 5 batteries wired in parallel would still give you 12 volts plus all of the amperage of each battery added together.

I attached a diagram that shows how either wiring setup looks.
