Parts Needed to Add 7 Way Connector to 2012 Jeep JK Unlimited
Question:
I need to convert the 4 way trailer tow harness that came stock with the tow package for my 2012 JK Unlimited Rubicon. I want the capability to tow heavier off road trailers but will need brake assist for the trailer. I have not yet decided which trailer I will purchase.

In order to install a 7 way connector on your 2012 JKU Rubicon you can use either the # ETBC7 if you plan on using a wired break controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885, or the # ETBC7L if you would rather use a wireless/bluetooth connected brake controller like the Curt Echo # C51180. Both of these 7 way connectors will utilize the existing 4 way on your vehicle to provide you with the connection you need to tow a trailer with brakes.
The difference between the two kits really comes down to the ease of installation that you want. The # ETBC7L kit does not require that you connect any brake controller or wiring within the vehicle, and you'll only need to run a wire to the battery to work with a wireless brake controller like the Echo. This is the route I recommend going purely based off of the ease of installation and that the Curt Echo can be transferred between any number of vehicles that already have a working 7 way connector on them.
I've linked some installation and review videos of these options to this answer that you might find informative if you decide to do these installation on your own (they're relatively easy).
