Will the Factory Brake Controller On a 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 Work With a Dexter DX EOH
Question:
Hi. I have a 2009 GMC 2500 Sierra with an OEM trailer brake controller. I am about to purchase a 2003 ACE TRrailer with a Dexter electric over hydraulic brake actuator installed when the trailer we built I believe. Will I have a combatability issue and if so, what are my options. I have read about an in-line device that mimics an electric brake setup. I have also heard about installing a seperate controller. I would like to know the pros and cons for both, if they are indeed two options. Thank you.

The factory brake controller on a 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 is NOT compatible with an electric over hydraulic brake actuator as is. It sounds like you are aware of an adapter for this but these are only available for HydraStar and Titan Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuators, not Dexter. Therefore, you really only have one option which is to obtain a new aftermarket brake controller.
For an aftermarket brake controller, you could use the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 and bypass the factory brake controller via hardwiring (see attached article) or you could use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 which is plug and play with no hardwiring required. I recommend the Curt Echo as you can always go back to stock when needed without any modifications.
