Tire For A 2011 Bighorn 5th wheel 3185RL
Question:
My 2011 Bighorn 5th wheel 3185RL has a GVWR of 14,000 pounds and the nameplate says the cargo limit is 2,630 pounds. The GAWR for each axle is 6,000 pounds 4 tires, two axles, single wheel on each. Im currently running on 235/80R16s. I pull with a gooseneck hitch. Ive had numerous flats with several brands of tires. To upgrade, should I go with the Kenda 235/80R16s or Kenda 235/85R16s to properly carry my rig? P.S. Im a repeat customer.

Thank you for being a repeat customer. We certainly appreciate and value your business! I'm sorry to hear you've had multiple flats too but looking forward the best quality tire for your Bighorn and my recommendation is the Kenda Karrier Load Range F # AM10501. This tire has a speed rating of 81 mph.
Moving to a 235/85R16s from your current 235/80R16s and stepping up to a load range F, will make about a 763 lbs per tire in capacity difference and will also increase the overall diameter by almost an inch. This is a significant increase in capacity totally 3.052 total pounds. I would be more inclined to try this higher capacity tire given the history of flats. Overloading past the 14,000lbs or exceeding the speed rating are both big contributors to blowouts. Another one is not maintaining the proper PSI they should be inflated to.
