2006 Chevrolet Silverado Trailer Charge Line Fuse Location
Question:
I have a 2006 Silverado And I’ve seen posts stating that the trailer charging fuse is a 40 amp Located in the upper left corner of the fuse box under the hood. My book calls that’s stud number one. However in my case I remove that fuse and still have 12 V going to the trailer plug in the back of my truck. This makes me think that that fuse is not the right one for my truck. Any suggestions?

I looked up the owners manual for your 2006 Chevrolet Silverado and found the fuse diagram. Under the hood is where the fuses for your trailer wiring are located,.
Stud # 1 is for Auxiliary Power, Stud # 2 is Accessory Power/Trailer Wiring Brake Feed. So stud # 1 is for the 12 volt power at the back of 7 way, stud # 2 is the power for the brake controller inside your truck.
If you remove the cover from the fuse panel, you can see the studs the fuses connect to. Each one should have a red wire connected to it. The thicker of the two red wires should be hooked to stud #1, or the stud closest to the front of the truck with a 40 amp fuse. The thinner red wire should be hook to stud # 2, towards the rear of the truck with a 30 amp fuse.
Since the wires and studs are so close together, it is very possible that they have gotten attached to the incorrect studs.
I attached a photo of the fuse diagram, and legend for your 2006 Silverado and a video that shows the fuse panel and wires. If you have your owner's manual, you can find it on page 5-127, 5-128.
