Is the Tongue Weight of the MT70066 Reduced When Using the 2 Accessory Receiver?
Question:
Hi, I have 2020 Volvo XC90 with Maxx tow class3 trailer hitch. I’m carrying my dirt bike on motorcycle carrier and I would like to have more clearance from the ground. I read your answers from someone’s question which says the hitchs tongue weight capacity will not be reduced by 50 percent using this adaptor but I see on product description note which says that the hitchs tongue weight capacity will be reduced by 50 percent. I’m confused. Which is right? Can I use this adapter for my motorcycle carrier or not?

I'm not sure which answers exactly that you're referring to, but any time you use an adapter like the # HTAD, your tongue weight capacity is reduced by 50%. However, the MaxxTow Ball Mount # MT70066 does not have the same characteristics since it is a 1 piece ball mount and accessory receiver. Because of this, as long as your dirt bike and motorcycle carrier weigh less than 500-lbs total (the tongue weight capacity of this ball mount), you'll be able to carry it without issues. You'll also want to make sure that when doing this, you stay under the hitch's tongue weight capacity as well.
