What is the Correct Brake Controller Wiring Harness for a Tekonsha P3 and 2012 Toyota Tundra
Question:
Bought my P3 here with a pig tail for my 06 Ram. You guys and Janet were great then. Time to upgrade the P3 to work with my new 2012 Tundra so why go anywhere else? It has the towing package and it came with what I believe is a hard wired controller plug but who wants to deal with all that? My question is, the last plug I bought did not have a ground wire that had to be attached to the truck. Will the wiring harness for the 2012 Toyota Tundra have a ground wire I will need to route and attach?

Expert Reply:
The brake controller wiring harness for the P3 and your 2012 Toyota Tundra, # 3040-P, does include a separate ground wire that you will need to attach to a bare metal surface on the truck. The factory ground in the Tundra is not sufficient for the needs of the brake controller which is why this additional ground wire is needed. I have included a link to a video showing installation of this harness on a 2010 Tundra which will be similar to your 2012.
