Since you don't know the capacity of your 1990 Terry Trailer model 42T and I wasn't able to find any such information online, I recommend the Curt Multi-Ball Adjustable Ball Mount # D900, which will work as long as your trailer is not over 10,000 lbs.

This ball mount is designed to fit a 2 inch hitch receiver (most common) and has all three US standard ball sizes. I'll list them below with their corresponding gross towing capacities:

1-7/8 inch ball: 6,000 lbs
2 inch ball: 7,500 lbs
2-5/16 inch ball: 10,000 lbs

The height on the Curt ball mount is also adjustable and provides a maximum drop of 5-3/4 inches and rise of 4 inches, to work with almost any application.

Most trailers list hitch ball size (diameter) and maximum towing capacity on the tongue, coupler, or frame so I suggest checking these places. Any hitch ball used to tow the trailer should have the same diameter and a maximum capacity the same or greater than that listed. Common hitch ball diameters are: 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16".
