Can I Use a Solar Generator to Power Outdoor Christmas Lights?

Question:

Not an extravaganza by any means. It’s a long way to the end of the lane. It’s an issue stringing extension cords that far.

I can tell you that the Goal Zero Yeti 150 # 287-22004 is most likely not going to provide enough power for anything more than a couple strands of Christmas lights. For reference, a typical set of 25 C-7 Christmas lights pulls about 40 watts. The Goal Zero only puts out about 150 watts on AC power and is meant to work with small items that don't draw a lot of power, so you'd be struggling to power more than a 4-5 strands of lights with incandescent bulbs.

I've linked one of our help articles on how to calculate your power needs, but if you can determine how many strands of lights and their required watts, that is a good starting place to determine what size generator you're going to need to power them all. If you have LED lights, your power draw is going to be much less and this generator may work well, but you'd still want to get an accurate calculation of your power needs.

If you can give me an idea of how many strands of lights and their wattage requirements I can help you determine which generator might work best for you.
