Which is Better Cushioned Pin Box for Lippert 1621 Replacement Sidewinder 5th Airborne or Flex Air
Question:
Im looking to replace the Lippert 1621pin box on my Sundance 2900MK Under 13000 #. My priority reason is to cushion the ride and possibly prevent furtherdamage to trailer chassis caused by our wonderful roads. You seem to regard the Lippert Trailair Flexair very highly, possibly providing the most cushioned ride of all available. My question is will the Flexair cause the trailer to ride higher in the front? Will the pin be lower on the rig than my current set-up? I already have the 5th wheel mounted in its lowest position, and the 1621 box mounted in its highest position, thereby providing the lowest connection possible. Further, my trailer axles are already mounted below leaf springs. I also like the looks of the Reese Elite 5th Airborne with sidewinder. Extra cab clearance would be welcomed, but not absolutely necessary currently have slider 5th wheel. However, you dont seem to regard the ride quality of the Reese as highly as the Trailair. Suggestions? Thanks,

The FlexAir pin box part # LC328492 that is a replacement for your Lippert 1621 is the most cushioned option out there and will not add height to your trailer. Now that said the ultimate fifth wheel pin box replacement is the 5th Airborne/Sidewinder you also mentioned part # RP61422. The cushioning on this is one of the best options around and gives you the better turning clearances as well. Since it costs more and not a standard style of pin box we don't normally recommend it for people asking about just a cushioned pin box. That said, there are several times I almost did just because of the improvements it provides outside of just cushioning.
The trailer will track better behind the tow vehicle around corners and will become much easier to back up plus the cushioning so it really is the biggest upgrade for a pin box you can get.
Another thing to consider is the hitch you are using. The jaw design of the hitch you have will be the biggest factor in reducing chucking. A tight jaw like the B and W Patriot # BWRVK3200 will actually give the biggest ride quality improvements.
I attached review videos for the hitch and the Sidewinder for you to check out as well.
