Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2005 Ford Freestyle that Allows the Hatch to Open

Question:

I see from the pictures that the quad rack has a hinge pin. Can the rack be lowered to the ground while remaining on the vehicle to allow the rear hatch to be opened? Or does the rack only lower to the horizontal position? I own a 2005 Ford Feestyle.....

You could remove the pin that secures the central arm of the Swagman Quad, # S64FR, and let it tilt down. however, you could not do it with the bikes attached to the rack because it was not designed for that purpose and could damage the rack. Also, if the bikes are not loaded you could just fold down the closest upright arm and open the hatch.

What I recommend instead is to go with a swinging bike rack like the Thule Apex, # TH9027XT. This rack also holds 4 bikes but has the ability to swing out to the passenger side of the vehicle giving you near complete access to the rear of the vehicle.
