2008 Jeep Commander Rear Door Clearance for a Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
Question:
Have an 2008 Jeep Commander that I am interested in buying a cargo rack for. I am concerned about clearance between the carrier and being able to open the rear door on the vehicle. I dont see a lot of swing out models but did see a hitch extender. Is the hitch extender the best option?

Using a hitch extender usually isn't a good option. Using an extender will lower the tongue weight (weight bearing) capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. You don't mention which sort of cargo carrier you were interested in, we do offer an enclosed cargo carrier that would swing away from the vehicle.
