Is In-Line Fuse Needed When Installing Wiring Harness on 2010 Volkswagen CC
Question:
I am currently installing the wiring harness for my Curt Hitch. I have ran a line from the battery back to the adapter. My question is - should there be an in-line fuse close to battery? I personally think it is a good idea, but not sure what amp in line fuse to install? What would be an appropriate fuse?

Expert Reply:
Yes, you will want to install an in-line fuse close to the battery when running a power wire directly from the battery to the converter.
When installing Wiring Harness on your 2010 Volkswagen CC you will want to use the Curt Powered Converter Wiring Kit, part # 55151, to run the separate wire to the battery. This part will contain 20 feet of 12-gauge wire and an in-line fuse holder with a 10-amp fuse that is used to connect the vehicles battery to the powered converter.
I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt wiring harness. It will show how to wire the harness to the vehicle. Also, I will include a link to a video of the # 55151 wiring kit being installed on a vehicle. At the 4 minute and 10 second time frame of the video it will show the in-line fuse being installed.
