Can the RockyMounts SplitRail LS Be Used On a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Hello - in a post from a different customer, the RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Platform Hitch Rack # RKY11404 was identified as NOT suitable for fifth wheel trailers because they are not designed for bumper mounting or the potential bounce at the rear of the trailer. My fifth wheel has a factory, 2-inch, Class 3 towing hitch 7,500lbs capacity NOT a bumper hitch is your position against the RockyMounts SplitRail based on the heavier weight electric bikes and potential damage to the fifth wheel or potential damage to the RockyMounts SplitRail Bike Hitch? I ask because I will not be loading heavy eBikes on this Bike Rack, my bikes just 2 are standard road bikes, maybe 20-25 lbs each. Would you still say the RouckyMount is unsuitable for my use?

The RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY11404 is not rated for use on a trailer no matter the circumstance such as the type of bike used, or the type of hitch used. The issue is the ride at the rear of a trailer and it being too rough for most bikes rack. The rough ride would still hold true if using a frame mount hitch with lighter bikes as well.

That said, I do have a great alternative option for you in the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # KU84FR which is designed especially for trailers so it will work well with the bikes on your fifth wheel. It has wheel hooks just like the RockyMounts SplitRail LS you were after. The Swagman Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack part # S44FR would also work and is more cost effective but has frame hooks, not wheel hooks.
