The Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 is a great option for your 2016 Kia Sorento. You can still operate the bluetooth features in your car when the brake controller is connected. You can have the Curt Echo paired to your phone and the phone paired to your stereo for example. The Curt Echo is one of the easiest to install brake controllers on the market because all you have to do is plug it into your 7-Way plug with a solid ground connection and active 12V power wire to the vehicle's battery.
If you have not yet installed a 7-Way, I recommend to use the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L. We designed this kit specifically for installation of the Curt Echo because it only comes with the necessary wiring needed so you're not paying for pieces you won't need. The black wire from the plug needs to be extended to the positive side of the vehicle's battery via the provided circuit breaker and the white wire needs to be grounded to a clean bare metal surface of the frame. The rest of the wires can be tucked away since they are not needed. The existing 4-Way on your Sorento plugs into the pigtail from the 7-Way plug.
If you don't have a 4-Way plug, I recommend Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness part # C56332 if you have a factory tow package. If you don't have a factory tow package, I recommend T-One Wiring Harness part # 118583.
