Base Plate Size And Capacity Differences On The Ram Gooseneck To 5th Wheel Coupler Adapter

Question:

Why Is the base plate for the 25,000 lb unit 11x14, and the one for the 30,000lb unit is 10x10? The larger the base plate, the better the stability the trailer will have. I would think the heaver the rating, the larger the plate should be????? can you email your answer in case I dont get back here right away, thanks

I contacted the manufacturer on your behalf regarding your question. Per Ram, the plate is the same 10"x10" size on the # KPG5-R25-IP and the # KPG5-R30IP. Our review video also had it measured the same.

The capacity difference increase for the 30k comes by way of the welded belly band around the bottom of the outer tube. The 30k capacity also comes from the .275" inner tube wall thickness vs the .24" inner tube wall thickness on the 25K.

Included are video resources for more information as well.
