Is There a Spare Tire Bike Rack for a 2006 Jeep Wrangler With More Than 35 Lb Weight Capacity

Question:

I have 2 evokes that weigh more than the 75lb limit for this carrier. Is there anything similar that I could use? I did note that 3 bike carriers have a weight capacity that would work but I don’t know if they have a similar configuration

Expert Reply:

The max weight capacity for a spare tire mounted bike rack is 35 lbs per bike so your only option to carry heavier bikes is with a trailer hitch and hitch mounted bike rack. There are three bike trunk mounted bike racks with a higher overall weight capacity yes but the individual weight capacity per bike is still 35 lbs or even 33 lbs in some cases.

For a trailer hitch, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13408 is a confirmed fit for a 2006 Jeep Wrangler and the most economical option we offer at this time. Then for a bike rack, the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider 2 Bike Platform Rack part # HR200Z is the most economical option we offer with a 45 lb per bike weight capacity.
