Why Arent Safety Chains Needed When Using Demco 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter
Question:
I installed this item in my 2012 dodge ram 3500 4X4. after it was installed I found that the safty chain pop-ups were covered by the DM6140. Can I connect the safty chains to the DM6140 directly? Thanks for your help in this matter. thanks,

The laws on safety chains when towing are a little odd, but the short answer is that if you are using the Demco 5th Wheel Gooseneck Adapter part # DM6140 you don't have to use safety chains which is why this adapter covers up the pucks for them.
The safety chain laws are written that if there is a hitch ball involved you have to use them (like gooseneck or bumper pull towing) but if there is no hitch ball (like fifth wheel towing) you don't have to use them.
