Does the Pollak 7-Way RV-Style Trailer Socket # PK12-707E Come Pre-Wired
Question:
Do they come pre-wired?

Expert Reply:
The Pollak 7-Way RV-Style Trailer Socket, part # PK12707, is not pre-wired because it can be wired differently depending on the application.
When wiring a trailer connector, it is best to wire by function, as wire colors can vary. You will want to use a circuit tester, part # PTW2993, to test the wire function on your vehicle. Once you have tested the wires on your vehicle for function you will want to wire them to the # PK12707.
If you are looking at the inside of the trailer connector where the wires will get connected to the terminals and the notch on the connector is at the bottom, we will start at the 1:00 position terminal and go clockwise.
1:00 position terminal is labeled 3 green for the tail/running light.
3:00 position terminal is labeled 5 red for the left turn/brake light.
5:00 position terminal is labeled 1 white for the ground wire.
7:00 position terminal is labeled 2 blue for the brake controller output.
9:00 position terminal is labeled 6 brown for the right turn/brake light.
11:00 position terminal is labeled 4 black for the 12-volt power supply.
Center terminal is normally used for the trailer reverse lights.
This will give you the correct wiring for the 7-way vehicle connector.
The color of the wires on your vehicle may be different from those listed on the connector, so I recommend testing them for function with the circuit tester. I am including a link to an FAQ article on trailer wiring that will also help you wire the connector.
Another vehicle connector I would recommend to use is the Hopkins 4-Way and 7-Way, part # 37185. This part can be plugged into an existing 4-Way on your vehicle and the remaining wires connected. If you do not have an existing 4-Way on your vehicle you can remove the 4-Way plug on this part and wire all of the wires directly to your vehicle.
