The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the limit that the overall weight of your trailer, including a full load, should not exceed. As a general rule the tongue weight of your trailer is going to be about 10 to 15 percent of your gross trailer weight. It is important that you know the gross trailer weight and tongue weight of your trailer before choosing a weight distribution system.

You will want a weight distribution system that is rated higher than the dry tongue weight of your trailer. The Pro Series Weight Distribution System, # PS49582, would be a viable option for your 22 ft hi-lo trailer as long as the loaded tongue weight falls between 550 to 750 lbs.

The Pro Series weight distribution system is an economical option and the friction sway control bar # 83660 and hitch ball # 19286 would need to be added. This system has a tongue weight capacity of 550 to 750 lbs and a gross towing weight of 10,000 lbs.

Keep in mind that 15 percent of 4500 lbs is 675 lbs and anything loaded behind the rear axle of your 1997 Ford F-150 4x4 will also contribute to the overall tongue weight. If you have a lot of cargo in the bed of your truck you could possibly exceed the 750 lb tongue weight rating.

If you feel this may be an issue, then you may want to look into the Pro Series Weight Distribution System, # PS49583. This system has the same features as the previously mentioned weight distribution system, but it has a tongue weight range of 750 to 1,000 lbs.

I have attached installation instructions for all of the weight distribution systems for you to check out.
