Will the Thule T2 Pro XTR Work With Class II Trailer Hitch 1-1/4 Inch Using Adapter

Question:

Hi, I have a Thule T2 Pro XT 9034XTR that fits 2 inches receivers. Is it ok to use a 1-1/4 to 2 inches receiver adapter to connect my bike rack on this hitch #36544 installed on my 2016 Azera? I already have the hitch isntalled. If so, should I get the straight or any riser receiver adapter? Tks

In order to use the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH83JV (which has a 2" shank) with a 1-1/4" receiver tube you will indeed need an adapter, the Brophy Hitch Adapter part # HT5R or part # HTAD. The adapter with rise will be needed for smaller vehicles with less ground clearance whereas the straight adapter can be used for larger trucks and suvs. That said, the use of a hitch adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50% so you will need to keep this in mind. If the reduced weight capacity does not work for your bikes then you will have no other option but to use the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack part # TH23JV which has a 1-1/4" shank.

Your 1-1/4" hitch on your 2016 Hyundai Azera has a 300 lb tongue weight capacity which when used with an adapter will leave you with 150 lbs. The weight of the bike rack, 50 lbs will then need to be subtracted leaving you with 100 lbs for two bikes which is certainly doable so you should be alright.
