Bike Rack Recommendation for Electra Townies with Step Thru Frame that Ride AutoTrain
Question:
For some background, we live half a year in Maryland and half the year in Florida. We take the Autotrain back and forth which is a rough ride for the car with bikes attached. The Malone is very interesting. However, we both have Townie Electra with Step Thru design which does not have the upper cross bar. We also have fenders. We do ride a lot and sometimes move the bikes to different trails. What is the best design to cover all my requirements? I do have a factor 2inch hitch. Id dont want to take our a mortgage to pay for a name..... Thanks!

The best bike rack solution we have for your Townie Electra bikes that have step thru frames is the Thule DoubleTrack part # TH92BJ. I know Thule is "name brand" and you aren't wanting to pay for a name brand but this rack covers what you need the best. It has frame clamps that were designed for attaching to step thru frames like yours has, has the weight capacity you'd need for your bikes, was designed for rougher ride qualities found at the rear of motorhomes so it would work well with your Autotrain rides, and is even lighter weight than most platform bike racks at 32 lbs. It also fits your 2 inch hitch.
You have a pretty unique set of requirements from a bike rack so not every rack would be ideal, but this rack would work really well for you.
