2016 Ford F-150 Sags When Attached to Horse Trailer with Living Quarters

Question:

Hi I have 6000 to 8000 pound horse trailer that I am towing with my Ford 2016 F150 eco boost truck. The trailer empty is 4500 lbs and the tongue wt with the empty trailer is 1500# My back end is seriously sagging. Hitch place recommended super springs but I think I need a weight distribution bar as well. Also, when the horse gets loaded the tongue wt decreases, but I need to tow with an empty trailer as well.

In order to prevent sagging while towing with a 2016 Ford F-150 I do recommend a weight distribution system, the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17501 is one of the best options for the money and would be suited for your tongue weight range. I understand the trailer will have less tongue weight when the horses are loaded but the Curt TruTrack has a pretty large range so you should not have any issues though you would need to readjust the system to get the best performance. The Curt TruTrack also has four point sway control so in addition to load leveling you will receive increases in stability as well. Please pay no attention to the gross trailer weight ratings of the system as tongue weight is what really matters.

I recommend trying out the Curt TruTrack first to see if any additional support is needed as chances are it would not require any. That said, if you still need more support the SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer part # SSA28 are a good option. Please note, the Curt TruTrack is very easy to install and you will want to familiarize yourself with the system so I do recommend installing this yourself.
