Suspension Enhancement for 2014 Ram 1500 to Help With 5th Wheel Towing

Question:

airbags we have a 2014 dodge Ram 1500 and currently pull 30 ft trailer, would like to convert to a 5th wheel but the dry hitch is 1345 is there anything we can do to adjust that. we were told airbags but were concerned it would still be to much pressure on the truck.

That is a good question but there is nothing that can be done to your 2014 Ram 1500 which is going to increase it's capacity in any way. Suspension enhancement is definitely a good idea, but it will only help counteract the weight at the rear of your truck when towing instead of allowing you to pull more weight.

For your 2014 Ram 1500 I recommend the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4185 which are technically air bags but also sit in the coil springs so you get an improved ride and help level your truck when towing. I also recommend adding a compressor, the Firestone Air Command I # F2158 so you can control the air pressure of the helper springs much easier.

To tow a 5th wheel you will also need base rails and a hitch. The base rail kit I recommend for your '14 Ram 1500 is the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit with Base Rails # RP50142-58 because they do not require drilling into your truck bed, which is not only good for your truck but also saves a lot of time for the install.

For the hitch I recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Square Tube Slider # RP30051 if your 2014 Ram 1500 is a 6-1/2 foot bed, or the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30047 if you have a short bed. I really like these hitches because of their dual-jaw system which creates full contact with the king pin of a 5th wheel hitch, resulting in a quieter, smoother ride than you would get with a hitch that has a lesser jaw system.

I have added links to video reviews of these parts for you to check out as well.
