Tow Bar and Base Plate Recommendation to Tow 2016 Ford Expedition

Question:

I currently towing a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited behind the motorhome. I am thinking of switching to a Ford Expedition which has a weight of 5960#. That is with a full tank of fuel. I will most likely be caring other items in the Expedition when we travel. I dont know how to estimate the weight of that stuff. I now have a BX7365 rated at 6500#. That maybe pushing the limit on weight. Would you recommend getting either the BX7420 rated at 10,000# or getting the Aluminum BX4370 rated at 7,500#?

From what it sounds like, you're probably going to be best served by uprgrading to the 10000-lb capacity Blue Ox Avail # BX7420 to give yourself a bit of a margin of error with the weight you're carrying- especially if you're using it to carry your luggage and a large selection of tools to handle repairs in the event that something goes wrong.

With that being said, if you wanted to save the money, since you'll need to purchase a new base plate system- you'll still be able to carry a good amount of luggage and some hand tools in your Expedition while staying under the 6500-lb limit on your current Blue Ox Alpha # BX7365 tow bar; you could always store any big, heavy tools on your coach to stay under the tow bar's limits.

The base plates you'll need to use your Blue Ox tow bar with your 2016 Ford Expedition are the Blue Ox # BO74FR, which work with Expedition models that have the Adaptive Cruise Control and those that don't.
