Replacement Radiator Fan For 1966 Oldsmobile 442 To Help With Overheating on Highway

Question:

Can you explain what reverse rotation means and what it does. I’m looking for a fan that will keep my car cooler on the highway. It runs fine in the city but runs hotter on the highways. It’s only a 4 blade fan which are 4 inches wide. Will a six blade fan 2 inch wide help. My car is a 1966 Oldsmobile 442

If your existing fan rotates counter clockwise you need a reverse rotation fan. The general rule is if your vehicle has a "V" belt it is standard rotation. If your vehicle has a serpentine belt it is counter clock wise or reverse.

You could use the Derale 18" Rigid, Steel-Blade Race Fan - Belt Driven part # D17418 to replace your current fan. It is the diameter of the fan and the RPM, not so much the depth that would make the difference. However, I recommend to add an electric radiator fan part # FLX234 to the Oldsmobile to help it from overheating on the highway. You will get much better cooling with an electric fan.

You want to make sure you have enough space for the electric fan in front of the radiator. This particular fan measures 14-1/4" wide x 14-3/4" tall x 3-1/2" deep and offers 1,900 CFM output.
