Troubleshooting New Self Adjusting Trailer Brakes that Are Performing Weakly
Question:
Hello, I just installed dexter 4.4k brake assemblies 2 each of P/N k23-478-479. per the brakein instructions in the box I took the system out and did 20 stops from 30-40 mph. after full brake in per instructions the brakes do work however if with the electronic gain at 10 they are not stopping the trailer fast enough. the system I just replaced would stop the trailer much quicker at gain of 7 should I do an initial manual adjust? thanks in advance!

It wouldn't hurt to do a manual adjustment of the # K23-478-479 that you just installed, but normally the initial break in process you did gets it tight enough. Another way to speed up the process is to travel at a slower speed like you were doing and repeatedly slide the manual override lever. With every application it should adjust one click tighter.
Let me know if you are still having weak brakes and I'll see what we can do beyond that as well!
