How To Bypass Hot Water Heater During Winterization

Question:

Can this valve be used with hot water? I have a tankless water heater that I would like to use a pair of these on inlet and out so as to allow me to drain for winterization. Thank you

Since this is a brass fitting, you're not going to have any issue using the Camco Garden Hose Y-Style Shut-Off Valve # CAM20123 on your hot water heater; there is no danger of melting or anything like that. I would be cognizant of the type of hose you use for the water though, since that would be the component susceptible to damage from extremely hot water.

As an alternative, I recommend using the Camco RV Winterization Water Heater Bypass Kit # CAM35713 to help keep antifreeze out of the hot water heater altogether and bypass the system. This is a temporary kit that installs in the winter and will easily come off in the spring. It comes with 2 connectors and a hose.
