Can The Tailgate Be Lowered with the RockyMounts BackStage Installed and No Bikes
Question:
I believe you are missing an important feature in all of your videos on the RM Backstage 2: Can the tailgate be lowered fully with no bikes and no swing?

Expert Reply:
The RockyMounts BackStage 2 Bike Platform Rack part # RKY10002 will need to be swung out and away from the vehicle in order for you to be able to lower your tailgate. Therefore, you will not be able to lower your tailgate without bikes attached and without the rack swung out. The reason for this is that the shank rise which is needed to provide ground clearance on certain vehicles positions the tray up too high.
The majority of bike racks will also not allow you to lower the tailgate with the arms folded down and no bikes attached for the above reason which is why the swing-away feature was designed so it would be wise to use a bike rack with this on a pick-up.
