Can I Use My Cell Phone While Towing With Curt Echo
Question:
Can the Iphone be used at the same time as the controller?

You can use the Iphone at the same time as the Curt Echo controller part # C51180 because the Echo pairs with the controller via Bluetooth. The only functions you would not be able to use on your phone is with a bluetooth device like your vehicle's media system or a headset. However, we do not really recommend to use the phone while towing just in the case that you need to hit the manual override, you want the phone easily accessible with the Curt app open. You can also pair the brake controller to as many phones as you would like so if you wanted to use a separate phone to use the Echo you can.
If you do not want to have your phone tied up while towing, I recommend to use a traditional brake controller like Tekonsha Prodigy P2 part # 90885 which can be mounted in the cab of the vehicle and has a built in manual override lever that is very simple to use and easily accessible.
If you let me know the year make and model of your vehicle I can recommend a plug and play adapter for the P2 if there is one available.
