Troubleshooting Brake Controller Install Wiring in 2018 Ford F-150 with Factory 4-Way

Question:

I wired up my ETBC7 4 year in to 7 pin on my 2018 F-150 I feel according to the diagram and instructions. I am using a brake controller with this kit from my 2015 F-150. When I went to test on trailer the brake controller kept clicking.so I unplugged from trailer and tested with the slide button. Trying to read what kind of error I was getting. One of my wires on my brake light switch melted the insulation off I don’t have a way to hook the brake controller signal to. Could I hook it to the brake lights after verification that the wiring of the controller is correct? I have a trip to Stone Mountain that we planned for the first time since we rolled our camper and truck on the interstate this past July I really don’t want to have to cancel but I can seem to find a color layout of any sort of the wires on the brake switch so I can rewire that. Please help

There is a short on the circuit that has a melted wire which is the stoplight circuit wire you used. It's either the wrong circuit which is causing the short when you made the connection or there was exposed wire that is now able to short out.

Your 2018 Ford F-150 that has a factory 4-way has a factory brake controller install port under the dash which was designed to make installing a brake controller easy. All you'd need is a harness like the part # 22292 and then to connect a few wires from the rear truck frame rail to the 7-way adapter you have with the # ETBC7. I attached an install video that shows a brake controller install on a 2018 Ford F-150 like yours using the # 22292 as well.
