Installing Stromberg Carlson 5th Wheel Tailgate on 2019 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Question:

when left side latch works and catches the right side wont and when right side catches the left wont..... adjusting the slide bar up and down dosent seem to be helping.......wondering if the pivot joints are put on wrong???

The only thing that I can see causing this difficulty with installation of your Stromberg Carlson # VG-15-4000 is that the tailgate frame is slightly bent-which if it's a new truck, I'm sure you're the first owner and would know if it had been in an accident before. If the tailgate did not come fully assembled, you can try flipping them around to see if they were put on the wrong way, but if it came assembled I don't think that is the cause.

I would recommend taking off the latches and adding a gasket to extend them out just a hair using some Loctite RTV # LT37467 . This will put a gasket between the latch and the tailgate and should extend the latches out enough to help get them to catch the pins on the tailgate.

You also may want to consider this information from our tech tips: Tabs will need to be removed from your factory pivot tube insert. If you would like to retain use of the factory tailgate, please order Part ETZZ-99430B22-A at your local Ford dealership- it may apply to this situation.
