Recommended Trailer Brake Controller for 2020 Ram Rebel with Limited Space for Under Dash Unit

Question:

The factory part is on big time backorder. What is my best approach for this vehicle? The big issue I see is the fact that there really is no space for an under dash installation. My wife has one on her FJ, but due to its size it will not work in the Ram.

There are a couple of really great aftermarket brake controller options for the 2020 Ram Rebel where space is limited for a traditional under-dash unit.

I first recommend taking a look at the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR. This is an excellent system that features a small control knob that's used for setting adjustments or the manual override that can be mounted in a variety of locations, keeping your knees bruise-free and providing a factory-like appearance in the cab. I have attached a couple images of this knob so you can see exactly what I mean.

The controller itself is an excellent proportional system that will automatically send power back to the brakes in proportion to your truck's deceleration. It can also be switched to user-control mode, which essentially converts it to a time-delay unit that can be beneficial for slower, off-road type applications.

There isn't a plug-in wiring adapter available yet for the 2020 Ram (as of 10-2019) so it will just need to be hardwired into the factory wires behind the dash.

The other option that I really like is the Curt Echo # C51180, which will leave the Ram's cab completely unaltered. This unique controller actually plugs right into the 7-Way connector at the rear bumper and simply pairs to your smart phone via Bluetooth. You can then adjust settings or apply the manual override right on your phone using the specific Echo app.

This keeps the cab as clean as the day you bought it, allows for a really simple install since you just need to plug it into a 7-Way that's already on your Ram, and also lets you easily transfer it to other vehicles if needed without hassle. Like the Redarc option, it is a proportional controller that sends back power in correspondence to your deceleration.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this controller that you can check out as well.
