Locating Reverse Lamp Circuit on 2011 Ford F150 With Factory 4-Pin Trailer Connector
Question:
On my 2011 F-150 XL, which has the factory 4 pole pigtail where do I tie into on the truck for the back-up lights to work on the trailer. I am assuming of course that the 37185 kit would be the kit I would need. I have no need for a brake controller, at least at this time.

Follow the harness that feeds your 4-pin connector back to the driver's side frame rail. It will plug into a connector and wiring harness that runs forward to the front of the vehicle. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 on the wires in the harness leading to the front of the vehicle while the vehicle is in reverse. The one that shows power only when in reverse will be the reverse lead. Be sure the person helping you keeps their foot firmly on the brake and isn't currently upset with you. I've heard from a few sources that the wire you're looking for is gray in color, but you'll want to confirm that for yourself.
You could also tap into one of the harnesses feeding the taillights, one of those wires will also carry the reverse lamp circuit.
The Hopkins # 37185 would work perfectly for your needs.
