Best Gooseneck Trailer to Fifth Wheel Adapter Solution for Towing with Short Bed Truck

Question:

hello we have a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 mega cab, short bed. we also have a husky fifth wheel slider hitch to pull the 40foot fifth wheel we had ...We would like to utilize our existing equipment and be able to tow our goose neck horse trailer and a fifth wheel if we wanted to. This seems to be the most versatile, cost affective way to go. we have called many ships around and are given many different answers based on what each shop prefers or sells. So heres where we have come to in our understanding...We already have everything we need with the Husky slider hitch that will tow the horse trailer nicely down the road and if We need to maneuver into what could be a tight place all we need to do is release the slider when maneuvering. And we know we need to purchase a king pin to goose neck adapter for the horse trailer to make this option work....So with that said witch adapter would you recommend its the 4inch standard pipe? And we are also wondering how the safety chains hook up with this option? is there a kit or something we would need to get? Is there anything else we need to do that you could think of ? we are trying to work this out the best we can and take our equipment into the shop for installation and go get the trailer before the Rain hits here in Oregon?? once we know what adapter would our best option? And I will order from your site. Thank you for your time and expertises and I hope I explained our situation in an understandable way... I am a the wife of a plumber and we dont know all the correct lingo on trailers lol. Thank You!....

You are definitely on the right track to coming up with the best solution to allow you to tow your fifth wheel trailer and gooseneck trailer. Since you have a short bed truck it is important that you have turning clearance which converting the gooseneck to a king pin does allow you to still use the slider hitch and have the clearance you need.

Since you have the standard 4 inch tube on your trailer the king pin adapter part # KPG5-R30IP is the way to go. This will fit in place of what you have now easily and gives you the style of connection that your Husky fifth wheel hitch needs.

You actually don't need to use safety chains either. Since the connection from the trailer to the truck does not use a hitch ball and instead uses a king pin the safety chains aren't needed based on the laws regarding them. So all you need is this adapter installed on your trailer and you're set!
