Brake Controller Adapter to Install Draw-Tite Brake Controller in 2020 Ford Explorer
Question:
I have a 2020 explorer. I have the Tekonsha harness from my old 2016 explorer and a nice draw tite brake controller already. I would like to re-use these components in my 2020 but there is very little information on where to wire this harness up. I have tried to find it myself in the same location as the 2016 but it doesnt appear to be there on the 2020. Can you let me know where to plug in this harness?

Congrats on the new vehicle!
The brake controller adapter # 3035-P you used on your 2016 Explorer is only confirmed to fit the Ford Explorer with Factory Tow Package up to 2019. The manufacturer has yet to confirm which adapter will be needed for the 2020 Ford Explorer. So, to install your Draw-Tite brake controller you will have to cut the vehicle side plug on the end of your harness, test the wires on the Explorer and hardwire it.
The functions by color on the 3035-P are as follows:
Blue: trailer brakes
White: vehicle battery negative terminal
Black: vehicle battery positive terminal
Red: cold side of stoplight switch
Of course, you probably do not want to cut or splice any wires and risk damaging the electrical system on your brand new vehicle. Perhaps a more convenient option is the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180. This wireless controller does not require any cutting or splicing as it simply connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth and all you have to do is download the app and plug it on the existing 7-way on the back of your Explorer. It's as simple as it sounds.
I have included a review video below for you to check out.
