Echo Brake Controller Fit and Function Troubleshooting
Question:
I am having issues with my Curt Echo controller losing connection with the vehicle 7 way plug. The Echo hang out and sags down and looses connection with the top blades. Ive tried shimming the fit and cut the sag but with limited success. The 7 way on the vehicle is the GM factory 7way on my 2008 Suburban. Any insight on this? Would replacing the factory 7 way on vehicle with a Curt receptacle help? Would it have tighter dimensions and tolerances to limit the sagging? Help please.

With a Surburban that age it's definitely worth considering a replacement 7-Way Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 7-Way and 4-Pole Flat Connectors # C55774 to update the wiring and the connector that could make a difference in the Echo fit and connection.
Cleaning the connector is worth a try too. A wire brush like a battery terminal brush works well. If there is light corrosion, apply white vinegar with a pipe cleaner followed by scrubbing. If the corrosion is a bit heavier spray the connector down with PB Blaster first let it sit for a while and repeat. Once the connector has soaked for a while, use the vinegar approach to clean out the PB Blaster residue and corrosion that it loosened. You can do the same with the trailer end connector if the corrosion has gotten into it too. Finally finishing with some dialectic grease # 11755 can protect the components you just cared for.
We have tested the Echo here with replacement 7-Way connectors and it has worked fine for us.
