Recommended Trailer Hitch for a 1990 GMC R3500

Question:

Hi! I want to buy a class V trailer hitch receiver for my 1990 GMC R 3500 DUALLY 1 ton PICKUP The crossbar should be 27 to 28 inches across. I already bought the Class 5 XD Trailer Hitch receiver for GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado from Home Depot. Despite their assurances, that hitch receiver did not fit the bolt hole pattern on my truck. The crossbar for that hitch was 31 inches across, where it should have been 27-28 inches across. Can you sell me the appropriate Class 5 hitch receiver for my truck? Please let me know, thank you so much

I do have an option for you but I checked with all of the aftermarket trailer hitch manufactures and none of them offer a custom fit trailer hitch for a 1990 GMC R3500. As you have come to find out, the trailer hitch for a 1990 GMC C/K 3500 will not fit. Therefore, your only option is a universal trailer hitch for which I recommend using the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 41990-16.

The Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver has a 44" long cross tube that can be cut down to 27-28" and the frame brackets are very tall so this gives your plenty of material to play with allowing you to choose your receiver tube height. The brackets can either be cut and then welded or bolted to the frame but you don't have many other options as they don't offer any custom fit trailer hitches for your vehicle.
