Will the Curt Trailer Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier Work On a 2016 Coachmen Orion Motorhome

Question:

We just purchased a 2016 coachman Orion. We would like to carry a spare tire. It only has a class 1 hitch 1 1/4 inch with a rating of 200 lbs. Can we safely use the hitch mounted spare tire carrier if we also us the 2 inch hitch adapter. Or are these only for use with class 2 hitches. Thanks

The use of a hitch adapter such as the Brophy Hitch Expander part # HTAD or part # HT5R will reduce the trailer hitch's capacity by 50%. Therefore, your new weight capacity is 100 lbs if using either of the above. The Curt Trailer Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier part # c31006 weighs around 15 lbs therefore so long as the weight of your spare wheel/tire does not exceed 85 lbs then you will be okay to go ahead with this.

That said, I really don't see any other option to carry a spare wheel/tire on your 2016 Coachmen Orion Motorhome.
