Distance Between Surco Folding Cargo Carrier # 52018 and Shank Hitch Pin Hole

Question:

Hello, I own a 2002 double cab shortbed Toyota Tacoma. I would like to use this carrier with my tailgate down. I think I need at least 17inch inches clearance from my hitch pin hole to where the closest part of the carrier is... What is the distance from the hitch pin hole to the closest part of carrier on the C18150? Is there a folding adapter I can use? The further away from the hitch pin hole the better for me in my case.... Thank you for your time...

If you use the # 52015 folding adapter with the Curt Railed Cargo Carrier # C18150 You would get more clearance. When in the folded down position, the hitch pin hole of the this combination would be is 23-1/4 inches away from from the closest portion of the carrier.

To determine if you will have clearance with the tailgate open, stand a yardstick or a straight piece of lumber up against the tailgate (make sure it is square to the ground) and measure the distance from the center of the receiver pin hole to the closest edge of the piece of wood. If this measurement is less than 23-1/4 inches, the carrier should work for you. The folding carrier retains the 500 lb weight capacity, unless the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is lower.
