According to what I was able to find in my research, the towing capacity for the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser is 5000-lbs, so you are able to tow a 3000-lb boat without any issue. With that being said, you should always consult your owner's manual to confirm this towing capacity.

When towing a load that is more than 1/2 of the total weight on your tow vehicle, it's usually a good idea to tow with a weight distribution hitch. This is going to help distribute the weight more evenly across the axles of your FJ Cruiser as opposed to towing without one, which is going to put a lot of stress on your rear axle/suspension and create some handling issues that can make towing a boat of that size unsafe. For that reason, I recommend going with the Husky Center-Line # HT32215 . The Husky Center-Line comes at a good price point. This kit includes a 2" hitch ball and a receiver shank, so you've got everything you need to tow right out of the box.

If your boat trailer has brakes, you'll also need a brake controller. If you have the factory tow package, I recommend the Curt Echo Mobile Wireless Brake Controller # C51180 which is the easiest installation available. This is a plug and play brake controller that won't require any wiring and is controlled via your smartphone from the cab of the vehicle.

If you don't already have a 7 way connector on your vehicle, you'll need to add that. I recommend using the # ETBC7L which will plug into the 4 way connector on your FJ and provide you with the 7 way connector needed for your trailer brakes. This connector is easy to install and uses the existing 4 way connector on your 2007 FJ Cruiser; from there you'll only need to wire a few more function wires. I've listed what wires will need to be connected below.

Black- connect to battery through included circuit
White- connect to ground
Yellow- connect to reverse lights
BLUE- not connected when using the Curt Echo
