Lug Size on Hub Does Not Match Lug Hole Size on Wheels

Question:

I just received my new Dexter hubs # 8-219-4UC3 EZ and noticed after I installed them that the lugs are 1/2”. The lugs on my old Dexter rims are 5/8”. Bolt pattern on both are 8 x 6 1/2. I mounted the rims I had on my old hubs onto the new hubs and they mounted perfectly but will the 1/2” studs cause me problems with these rims? Do 16” rims come with different lug hole sizes?

To answer your question, yes; 16" wheels do come with different sized bolt sizes. There are going to be 16" wheels that can be used with 5/8" studs, but they're going to require the use of flange nuts as opposed to lug nuts. This is because they are hub centric wheels, which are centered by the center bore of the wheel hub. When you have the 1/2" studs, you'll be using regular lug nuts to secure and center the wheel - these are lug centric wheels.

If you wanted to go ahead and change your wheels to match the new hubs, I recommend the Aluminum Modular Trailer Wheel # LHJM513 . These wheels are perfect for boat trailers and will provide maximum resistance from rust. They also come with a Roadside Assistance package, which is a nice added bonus.
