How Much Clearance Between Bed Rail of 2019 Ford F-250 and Gooseneck is Required

Question:

I’ve been pulling my “V-front” goose neck horse trailer with a 2WD 2005 GMC Sierra short ned and everything has worked fine. My truck is wearing out and I’m considering replacing it with a stock 2019 f250 crew cab shirt bed “FX4”. The bed of the F250 seems several inches higher and maybe the bed rails too. Will I be able to pull a goose neck trailer with this F250? Will there be enough clearance between the rails and the upper part of the trailer?

The newer trucks are a bit taller than the older ones but in general the bed rail heights and trailer heights are still compatible. The ideal minimum clearance between the trailer overhang and the truck bed rail should be 6 inches with the trailer sitting as level as possible.

So your best option is to measure the bed rail height of the new truck you are considering and then measure the height of the trailer overhang when level. If the height difference is 6 inches then you'd be good!

The best gooseneck hitch that fits your 2019 Ford F-250 is the B and W part # BWGNRK1116 which is made in the USA and is widely considered to be the best hitch around due to how well it's made and how easy it is to use.
