Recommended 2-Bike Rack for Carrying Electric Bikes on Kia Sorento
Question:
I need to transport my two electric bikes. I have the Gazelle Arroyo C8 HMB which weighs 57.8 lbs. and the RadCity Step Thru, weighing 65 lbs. Would the Thule Easyfold XT 2 E-Bike Platform Rack 1-1/4inch and 2inch Hitches Frame Mount #Th903202 be a good bike rack for me to attach to my Kia Sorrento SUV? Regards

When it comes down to it, I'd consider the Thule # TH903202 EZ Fold the best available option for carrying heavier electric bikes. The rack has a 65 lb per bike capacity, so it should work great for your needs. Other nice features include an integrated foldable ramp that makes loading and unloading bikes a breeze, as well as a tool free anti-rattle hitch attachment system. The rack is a little on the heavy side, just below 50 lbs, but once the rack is folded up, a carrying handle and integrated wheels make the rack very easy to move around. The rack can also tilt rearwards away from the vehicle while the bikes are in place, allowing easier access to the cargo area of the vehicle.
The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE, part # HLY84FR would also be an excellent, though not as refined choice. The Sport Rider features a higher weight capacity at 80 lbs per bike and a smaller price tag but lacks features like the ramp and the integrated carry handle and wheels. The rack weighs about 10 lbs more than the EZ Fold, so if you're installing it by yourself, it might be a bit more strenuous.
Either rack would be an excellent choice, but the EZ Fold would definitely be easier to use. If the price differential between the two didn't bother me, I'd probably go with the EZ Fold because of the added convenience. If I was a little budget conscious or if there were a possibility of maybe upgrading to heavier bikes in the future, the larger capacity of the Sport Rider would be ideal. Bottom line? I'd consider the EZ Fold to be easier to use with nicer convenience features, but the Sport Rider is more budget friendly.
