Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2012 Honda CR-V
Question:
Is the Swagman XTC4 Platform Bike Rack #S64665 Recommended for Smaller SUVs like the Honda CR-V which have lighter-duty towing ratings? I estimate that the total weight of the rack plus 4 bikes would be over the 150lb tongue weight that normally accompanies the CR-Vs 1500lb towing capacity. With a 2inch receiver, would the CR-V handle this load?

First, you are going to want to consult the vehicle owners manual for the towing capacities of your 2012 Honda CR-V. If it is listed at 150 pounds tongue weight, you must go by that rating even if the hitch is rated higher. If you need to add a hitch, I do recommend a Class III trailer hitch because the 2 inch receiver is compatible with more accessories than a smaller hitch.
The most popular hitch option is the Draw-Tite hitch, # 75742. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view.
If you are limited to just 150 pounds I do recommend going with the lightest bike rack option available that still fits your needs.
If you will be carrying womens, childrens, or alternative frame bikes, I recommend using the Tube Top adapter bar, # Y02531, to carry the bikes more level. I have included a video link showing how the adpater works.
