Should Orange Dot on Phone Screen Always Have Some Blue Around it with Curt Echo
Question:
I just received the Curt Echo and installed it on my 2011 Mercedes ML350. The device paired fine and the manual control causes the blue ring to expand around the orange dot. But the blue ring does not completely retract i.e. there is still 1/2 inch of the ring visible with no braking. This was true in park and in gear. I have not taken delivery of trailer yet 2013 Airstream so I dont know how this situation might affect the trailer. Should the blue ring completely disappear when no brakes are applied? Is this a setting I can change? Thank you.

I reached out to my contact at Curt regarding your Echo Brake Controller # C51180 and he said what you are seeing is actually completely normal. Because of the sensitivity on the accelerometer you're most likely always going to have a bit of blue around the orange circle and this won't have a negative impact once the trailer is hooked up.
Remember that the Echo isn't technically activated by the brake pedal but by the vehicle's deceleration - so any time you slow down during travel it's going to sense this and send back a small pulse to the trailer brakes. You can adjust this by decreasing or increasing the sensitivity on your screen.
Once you have the trailer in hand it will be a lot easier to fine tune the best settings by simply taking it out for a test-drive. You will quickly find out what the ideal settings are with regards to the sensitivity.
